In 2005, Ken Rochioli hung up his hat as owner of the Western Boot Steakhouse, but he didn’t want to leave behind his love of catering. His passion for the food, the events, the personal level of service and the clients, continue in the form of the dedicated business of KR Catering.
With a style that’s all his own, Ken offers a distinctive catering experience with a wine country sensibility. Using only the highest quality, local ingredients, KR Catering offers not only a great value, but also exceptional service. “With my years of experience, I can deliver this and provide the client with a successful event,” Ken says.
Ken started his career as a dishwasher at a five-star restaurant in Idaho as a young teen. Two years later, he was the Sous Chef and by the time he graduated from high school, he shared the head Chef position. In 1983, he moved back home to Healdsburg to help his father, Michael Rochioli, with the Western Boot. With Ken’s help, nurturing and energy, the Boot more than tripled its business and, by 1990, he acquired the restaurant outright.
After 15 years of working 12 to 14 hour days, six days a week at the restaurant, Ken was ready to move on and spend more time with his family. Since then, he has relished the time he has with his sons and the entire family out on the Rochioli ranch.
“Spending time with my family has come to mean everything to me,” Ken said. “My catering business allows me the best of both worlds — enjoy time with the ones I love, and provide clients with beginning-to-end catering services to complement their event.”
This also allows Ken to pursue his passion for fresh, local, high-quality ingredients from top vendors. He now grows his own produce and works with other local growers to get all that he needs for his business, plus his family's needs.
